MY TAKE ON BRENDAN RODGERS
Is he the right man to manage one of the greatest club in the world ? The Liverpool owners thinks so. To be honest I was a little surprised when Liverpool decided to appoint him as our new manager. I personally did not like the manner in which this change was made.I remain unconvinced that it was a change that was entirely necessary. But change we’ve got. We look to people’s records when rating them. Some will look at what he did at Swansea and find it very impressive. It’s no easy task to get promoted from the Championship, and then finish mid-table in the Prem… As evidenced by the fact that so few have done it. Brendan Rodgers spoke eloquently at his unveiling.I liked what he had to say… not coz he said what I wanted him to… but because he sounded genuine.
Brendan Rodgers is the one who was spotted by “ The special One “ at Watford and bought him to be his youth team coach at Chelsea and later on as reserve team coach. Throughout his coaching career, Rodgers travelled Europe and visited clubs such as Valencia, Sevilla and Barcelona as well as clubs in the Netherlands to exchange ideas on football philosophy and to learn from some of the best teams and managers in the game. He was particularly impressed by Tiki Taka style of Barcelona and tried to enact their style at Swansea and achieved it to some extent..But Swansea is no Liverpool and we have players with completely different playing style. It will be interesting to see what style of football he chooses to impose on the Liverpool players.
We can’t expect change at the club overnight and if we want him to take Liverpool fc to its glory days he should be given time required to impose his style of play.We have to stick with him even if we don’t qualify for Champions league for a year or two. Don’t forget that it took Alex Ferguson 7 long years to win the league and look where he is now. It will take something special from Brendan Rodgers to win over the Anfield faithful . Only time will tell if he succeeds at Liverpool fc or not but until then we are 100% behind him because “ WE ARE LIVERPOOL”.
